Meet the Designer
Zuri has been sewing and crafting for over 20 years, and made the decision to pursue formal work in costume design in 2009. She combines her love of crafting with her passion for creativity to create unique dance looks for dancers of all shapes and sizes.
Zuri has planned, created and designed pieces for her own fashion exhibitions over the past 10 years, including “In the Pink”, a breast cancer awareness exhibit in NYC Port Authority Terminal as well as two exhibitions at Taj Lounge in NYC. She has also done costume work for stage productions for the dance companies she was a member of. In addition, she spent a few years working as a costume shop manager, managing and creating looks from a 10,000 piece costume shop for a prominent theatrical event planning company in Long Island, NY.
She dances under the stage name “Zuri” which means beautiful in Swahili. As a dance professional, Zuri has 8 years of experience teaching Middle Eastern dance to children and adults. Zuri also is a social dancer in the 'on 2' salsa/mambo scene. She has excellent knowledge of group dynamics, body mechanics, and different learning styles, which help to inform and execute accuracy, fit, and comfort in dance design.
Zuri looks forward to helping you tell your story through unique one of a kind costume design.
